This PHD thesis, revised in October 2013, identifies Drucker’s formative influences during the first period of his life, between 1909 and 1937 - when he set out on an intellectual journey to find a just and workable society to replace what he regarded as the contemporary dysfunctional European ones. The justification for the selection of the major formative influences is supported by documentary evidence, and the interplay between different influences is explored. It also examines which ideas Drucker rejected, which he accepted in part, and which he embraced.
