Drucker's European Influences

This is a doctoral thesis The Formative European Influences that Shaped the Thinking of Peter Ferdinand Drucker and How they Manifest Themselves in his Later Ideas. The study was supervised by Emeritus Professor Derek S. Pugh, who was the leader of the essential Aston Studies on the impact of organisations’ structure; this began in the 1960s and continued for thirty years. As an author, Derek Pugh’s Writers on Organizations was first published in 1964 and is still in print. It was in the 1980s that he first published How to Get a PhD, which is still available and is the definitive guide. Derek was a founder member in 1986 of the world ranking British Academy of Management, the annual conference of which is now attended by 900 delegates. Derek’s contribution continues as he still holds workshops for PhD students. The acceptance for Peter’s studies came through Professor Andrew W.J. Thomson OBE, Dean of the Open University Business School, who was also supervisor to the project before he retired to New Zealand. Andrew was also a founder member of the British Academy of Management.
